My story began in the corridors of a global management consultancy, fresh out of university and armed with youthful enthusiasm. It was here that I spearheaded the integration of social media, paving the way for its use within the company. From running campaigns to managing events and fostering partnerships, I honed my skills in all aspects of marketing, fuelling my drive for excellence.
Transitioning to a role in one of the Big Four firms, I delved deeper into the digital realm, launching a London-centric blog and executing the marketing efforts for the Cyber Security practice. This chapter ignited my passion for coaching, as I mentored colleagues on using social media for business growth.
Agency life beckoned next, offering me the opportunity to immerse myself in diverse sectors and industries. Crafting social media strategies and orchestrating integrated campaigns became my forte, all while championing a philosophy of "Doing the right thing right." The satisfaction of seeing impactful, award-winning campaigns come to life was unparalleled.
Venturing into freelance consultancy, I continued to lend my expertise to businesses spanning FMCG, charities, government organisations, and beyond. Balancing this with the joys of raising a young family, I found fulfilment in guiding businesses toward their goals while nurturing my own.
Fast forward to 2022/23—a period marked by home renovations and the anticipation of my third child. Engaging with local businesses during this time, I discerned a common challenge: the quest to elevate their ventures amid constraints of knowledge, experience, and time.
Following the birth of my third child, I embarked on a new mission—to fill the void I'd observed in the market. Thus, Bright Red Anchor was born.
What drives me most is the tangible impact of my work—seeing strategies come to fruition and businesses thrive. With a breadth of experience spanning industries and roles, I'm uniquely positioned to propel your small business toward success.
And as for the name? It's more than just a moniker—it's a tribute to one of the most precious aspects of my life: my children. Derived from the Latin meanings of their names—Clara for "Bright," Rufus for "Red," and Hector for "Anchor"—Bright Red Anchor embodies the values of family, resilience, and steadfast support.
If only my secondary school Latin teacher could see me now...!
However, my first day back after maternity leave was a different story. I thought I had it all figured out – Rufus was a champ during nursery settling in sessions, I had my arsenal of new notebooks and pens, a perfectly organised desk, and a to-do list that seemed both clear and achievable. Little did I know, those preparations wouldn't matter when faced with the reality of it...
Reader, I wept.
The morning had been a military operation: solo missions to drop off all three kids at nursery and school, rushing back to my desk for a 9 AM call. I confidently detailed Rufus's nap schedule and milk preferences, but when it came to saying goodbye, the enormity of the situation hit me like a ton of bricks, and I let out the most colossal sob. The caring staff assured me he'd be fine, and I could call anytime – I knew that, but I hadn't given myself the time to process what Rufus going to nursery truly meant.
Returning to work was a happy prospect, but it also meant my babies were growing up. Clara, who's six, comforted me on our walk to school whilst we discussed the meaning of "bittersweet" to help her understand my tears. She proudly announced to her teacher, "My mummy runs her own business, and today is her first day back at work." My heart.
Back home, I called my husband, only to find out that Clara had been championing my business endeavours for weeks. There's nothing quite like the boost of knowing your child is cheering you on.
My workday was a success. I ticked off tasks from my to-do list, recalling the incredible productivity of working mums I've admired in my career. And you know what? I absolutely loved it.
